Day 23: Mindful Speaking.
Welcome to day 23 of this mindfulness Advent calendar. Yesterday I asked you to listen mindfully. Today is all about staying present when you speak to someone, if possible to someone you love and feel comfortable with in a cosy area away from work. Try to stay connected to yourself whenever you indulge in a conversation and observe the chatter in your mind. Are you thinking about what you want to say? Are you expecting a certain reaction? Are you thinking about what the other person could be thinking? Are you following some thoughts that you prepared before the talk? Try to let go of all this and just check in with yourself during the conversation. How are you feeling? What comes to your mind spontaneously?
How are you feeling now? We have a tendency to talk from our thinking minds in structured, reflected sentences. While this may make sense in certain situations, it can be a liberating and beautiful experience to speak from our hearts every once in a while.
